To support the contractual merger between the 2 practices, Heaton Norris Health Centre (Dr Marshall & Partners) and South Reddish Medical Centre (Dr Gupta) in April 2022 the Practice began the onerous task in November 2021 to look at options for supporting a physical merger on the Heaton Norris Health Centre site, utilising NHS Property Services Ltd, Customer Capital Programme Funding available.
There followed numerous meetings & negotiations over the next 12-18 months with lead Stakeholders, NHS Property Services Ltd & Greater Manchester NHS Integrated Care Board (Stockport) having provided them with a Brief on what the Practice wanted, which was to refurbish and redevelop the existing facilities on the Heaton Norris Health Centre site to include the vacant Community Pharmacy Premises and additional rooms that were earmarked for refurbishment from within the NHS Stockport Foundation Trust’s allocated space.
It was recognised that there was an urgent need for additional multi use and flexibly booked clinical space to meet current and projected demand, and that the current Health Centre site would not lend itself to delivering the needs of the Practice and was not fit for the provision of future health care.
All local stakeholders were keen to address this position and secure facilities that support the delivery of commissioning intentions and enhanced patient care in a first-class environment.
To support the merger there followed a detailed patient and clinical engagement and a formal public consultation, with the local stakeholders (patients, local councillors, and MPs) conducted to increase awareness of the merger process and plans via the following:
- Patient Consultation Survey on the Merger (including Estates) Proposal
- A Virtual Patient Consultation Meeting
2 Newsletters outlining the practices proposals and progress with the merger were circulated to all patients via email or in hard copy format.
Building works commenced in September 2023, and it was proposed that the 16-week programme costing £438K would have a late January 2024 completion date.
However due to bad weather and discovery of an underground cellar there were unforeseen delays with the programme timeframe.
We are therefore pleased to announce the very good news …. that the works have now been completed by the appointed contractor, Truline Construction & Interior Services Ltd, and that the building will be officially handed back to the Practice, tomorrow, Thursday 28th March 2024, subject to snagging works being completed.
There now follows a 2-week programme after the Easter Bank Holiday weekend to relocate all services (including the practice’s administrative function) from the South Reddish Medical Centre site to the Heaton Norris Heath Centre site
